The Tors Drive-In has been enchanting audiences since 1966 with our immersive big screen movies under a beautiful, twinkling ceiling of stars in a relaxed, country atmosphere.
While we offer a retro, nostalgic experience, we are a blend of the old and the new between our two screens. We show the latest movies with the best 4K digital presentation around that delivers a bright, precise image. Our projection equipment is well maintained and constantly upgraded for your viewing pleasure.
As a living, working cinema museum, we are also one of the few cinemas operating today that continues to screen classics on “reel” film. Two of our projectors are over 90 years old and still put a clear picture on the screen.
Please feel free to request a tour behind the scenes in the projection rooms, where you can see how a small film strip is transformed to a huge moving screen image!
A night at the drive-in is a special experience with the bonus of being hassle free. You don’t need to book a babysitter for the kids, you can come as you are, simply drive in, relax from the comfort of your car and let us entertain you for the night.
We even allow well behaved pets, so we well and truly cater for all the family!
Stream our FM sound through your radio, or use our old school speakers. Either way, you can adjust the volume to suit you!
Walk in patrons, bicycles and motorbikes are also very welcome and we have seating available in both fields.
We strongly believe in making going to the movies affordable, so that you can enjoy a full night out often. Our admission prices and cafe prices reflect this. Dinner and two movies here costs less here than just the admission price to a single movie at most city cinemas!
Our café operates every night that we’re open and we prepare tasty burgers using the best real ingredients we can source, as well as hot chips and other hot meals. Many of our customers tell us that they come here more for the great food than the movies!
We also offer an extensive range in our candy bar, including waffle choc tops in different flavours, drinks, popcorn and a wide selection of lollies. Please visit our cafe menu page to check out the prices – we’re sure that you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
We are a short, pleasant country drive from Townsville (136 kms) for those wanting a week-end escape from the city. There’s a lot to see and do here in our gold city, so why not book in for a night or two and get outback to Charters Towers?
